Congratulations to our Insurance Woman of the Year 2007

The APIW Insurance Woman of the Year award, presented annually since 1976, recognizes an exceptional woman who has achieved prominence in the insurance industry. Ms. Mitchell was chosen as this year's award recipient in recognition of her outstanding achievements and leadership within the industry, as well as her commitment to the advancement of women.

H. Elizabeth Mitchell has been selected as this year’s recipient of the APIW Insurance Woman of the Year Award.

Ms. Mitchell is president of Platinum Underwriters Reinsurance, Inc.

A cocktail reception and award ceremony will be held in Ms. Doyle’s honor on Thursday, June 14, 2007, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at the New York Marriott Marquis. Steven H. Newman, Chairman of Platinum Underwriters Holdings Ltd. of Bermuda, will introduce Ms. Mitchell at the event.

Prior to Ms. Mitchell’s appointment as president, she held the position of chief operating officer and executive vice president of Platinum US. In addition to managing various underwriting profit centers, she was responsible for the information technology, account processing and administration functions.

Prior to Platinum’s spin-off from The St. Paul Companies, Ms. Mitchell was Executive Vice President of St. Paul Reinsurance, Inc., where she held numerous senior positions there from 1993-2002. Prior to joining St. Paul Re in 1993, she was the Corporate Actuary at English & American Insurance Group, both in London and New York. She also spent 6 years at Tillinghast/Towers Perrin. Her career began at Insurance Services Office.

Ms. Mitchell is active in industry groups. She is currently Vice-Chairman and member of the Executive Committee of the Board of the Brokers & Reinsurance Markets Association. She sits on the Board of Directors of the Reinsurance Association of America. Ms. Mitchell is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society, a member of the American Academy of Actuaries and the International Association of Actuaries and is a member of APIW. She is a frequent speaker on industry and actuarial topics. In 2000, Business Insurance Magazine voted Ms. Mitchell as one of the 40 top executives in the insurance industry under 40 years old.

Ms. Mitchell graduated from the College of the Holy Cross, where she was Valedictorian and Phi Beta Kappa. In 2005, in recognition of her career achievements, Liz received the St. Ursula Award from The Ursuline School in New Rochelle, NY, where she had attended secondary school.

The annual APIW Insurance Woman of the Year Award, first presented in 1976, recognizes an exceptional woman who has achieved prominence in the insurance industry. She has portrayed exemplary professionalism in all her activities and is highly respected both within her organization an d w ithin our industry."
